Candlelight Night Sellout! Jan 2009
Following the signs I stumbled through dark alleyways, instinctively ducking to enter the gothic doors where candlelit windows greeted me and led my path along the grassverges of a secluded and 'secret' garden. The reason : A group of singer/songwriters led by Jazmine Ava were calling for an audience in a pub/club/wine-bar amidst an adorable niche of ancient Roman ruins. It was called the Minories Art Galleries, and the promised candle-light night of music was already sold out.

Headlining the evening saw Jazmine Ava appear with friends and session musicians in order to allure us and make us follow her into her world, and in order to show us that it is also our world. Normal everyday experiences end up being interesting and enchanting, not with magic words and spells, but by showing us that even common experiences provide an opportunity to share and cherish our innermost feelings, be they hopes or fears. Different musical styles help express different moods, and consequently we find that folk, rock, blues and swing are living in perfect harmony in her extensive portfolio, which is comprised of previously recorded songs as well as brand-new material created only recently, - a selection of which was chosen to fit the theme of the evening.
