Update - March
Hi and nice to see you again. The last two months have flewn by getting used to the credit crunch and making plans for the coming year. For me this included several trips to Trevor Durrant's Guitar-Wonderland in Colchester to have my little beauties seen to. I am talking about my instruments and my amps of course, which one by one got carried to his store for tender loving attention. (On some of the occasions I had to skate on the way due to the weather conditions.)
First was my Marshall 100w accoustic amp which had lost its shine and was running only on the lower registers. That was sent off. Then my Mackies needed tweeking and Trevor and his crew were putting their ears to the box in a bid to get all the levels right. After some adjustment I was able to take that home with me. This was followed by my luscious Breedlove guitar as the action was too high and needed lowering and we had to say good-bye to each other for a few days. Luckily, I still had my Wesley (Ovation replica) at home, to play and practise with and take to the gigs. (It was my first guitar when I started singing properly and we two are literally joined at the hip).
On one of my visits to the guitar shop I was told that my lead guitarist, Geoff, had just been in the shop and bought a new Taylor guitar, probably in expectation of the next candle light evening which was due on Feb 27 at the Minories. I was looking forward to hearing the sound, as Taylors are meant to be the creme de la creme when it comes to accoustic guitar playing and Geoff wanted to try a couple of songs in a kind of Spanish style. (He is versatile and creative, and a proper perfectionist!) Eventually, my amp came back sweet and the new guitar action was like butter. Yeah, great, it's all coming together at once and things are getting better all the time, - or so I thought . . . until the eve of the gig.
The night before the Minories gig I got a phonecall from the proprietor saying that the venue was cancelled due to the fact that he had no music licence. (Applied for, but not an actual one) At that time the walls around me started to wave and the ceiling buckled in, as I had to take a very deep breath. There were several bands and acts involved and the evening had long been sold out. 'There can be miracles if you believe . .' I managed not to cry. Instead, I sang that cheesy song and got onto the blower and it worked. With help from friends at Saint FM (lol) a new venue was found in no time, Riverlodge by the river Colne. The news was spread mostly via email. Everybody came and we sold a few more tickets as well.
The Singer/Songwriter's Evening went down a treat with a saxophone and violin being included in the performance. The Marshall, the Mackies and the Breedlove were superb in their performance and the Taylor sang like a bird. Not to forget my new deck which was huddled in the corner and did a fantastic job.
